The Greenway - May Picks #theyearinbooks

I am so happy I decided to join in with Circle of Pine Trees and read a new book each month.

Before I share with you the book I have chosen for May, I just wanted to let you know how I got on with April’s choice, Learning to Talk by Hillary Mantel.

It is the first of her books I have read and I have to say it isn’t looking very promising for me to read anymore! Even the short stories and hard to read. I can see why she is such a well-loved writer, her prose is beautiful but just not for me. One thing I did pick up on from these stories is that she has a recurring theme of split families and the stigma that used to come with them.

I also had time to read another book last month

The Bones of You by Debbie Howells

A friend lent this to me and I read it over a weekend as I couldn’t put it down. After reading the blurb, I was surprised to find the narrator was another girls mother, not a friend of the girl who has gone missing. This perspective worked really well and really added to the impact and engagement of the story. You should definitely add this to your need to read list.

This month’s choices are:

The Greenway bu Jane Adams

and

Days of Awe by Lauren Fox (Audible)

I’d love to hear what you’ve been reading recently, it’s always a great way to add new books to my ever-growing must read list!
