Last week saw us pack the car up and head off to the Lake District for a well earned week away from the hustle and bustle that is our lives.
Normally when we go away we tend to head down south to the coast in Devon or Cornwall but I wanted to explore somewhere new, somewhere we’d never been, somewhere we could have a real adventure out in the wilds of the UK.
We chose well.
I really think the fact that we chose to visit the Lake District during the autumn really added to the whole experience, the colours were vibrant, the weather was perfect for walking and exploring and the atmosphere created by the mist evoked some great ideas for my writing.
We visited only a handful of the amazing places the Lake District has to offer (more on these to come) but I think my favorite out of them all is Brockhole, which was only a short walk from where our lodge was situated.
The main highlight of this whole trip wasn’t the scenery or experiences, it was the fact that we spent quality time as a family, minus tech (well nearly, the teen had his phone!) and enjoyed spending this time together.
Over the past month, I had seen us drifting apart, engulfed in our own stresses and deadlines, rarely spending any time as a family and following this trip, I want to make it a weekly essential, even if it is just to watch a film or go for a walk.
I think it is important for all of us.
