Happy Hands

Our hands are one of the hardest working parts of our body and yet we tend to neglect them until it is necessary to take action. Here I will share with you some of my top tips on how to keep to achieve happy hands!

  • It is always best to exfoliate your hands at least once or twice a week, especially during the winter when your hands become dry and cracked. It removes dead skin cells, therefore, clearing the way for the hand cream to soak straight into your skin, doing a better job of moisturising.
  • Always make sure you apply suncream to the backs of your hands. This is one area we tend to forget and is actually one of the places on our body that is in direct sunlight the most.
  • Always wear gloves when cleaning or doing the washing up. The solvents in cleaning products can be harsh on your skin and also dull the finish on your nails.
  • Also whilst wearing your gloves, apply hand cream as the heat inside the gloves will make to moisturiser sink in deeper into the skin.
  • To avoid chips, wipe your nails with nail varnish remover before applying your chosen colour, therefore removing any dirt or oils that may be on the nail plate.
  • Try to apply two to three thin layers of varnish as this will take less time to dry than a thick layer.
  • Always apply a base coat and a top coat as this stops the colour from staining the nail plate as well as making the colour last longer.
  • To dry your nails quicker, blast nails with the cold setting of a hair dryer then submerge them into cold water. Add a drop of oil to each nail to stop bits sticking to them.
  • If you do smudge your nail varnish then dot a tiny amount of polish onto the smudge, allow it to dry and then repaint the whole nail.
  • Alternatively, you can cover chips by using an iridescent top coat which will hide any chips or smudges.
