Handmade Blue Cheese Burgers

Spread the love

Living in Leicestershire, blue cheese has obviously been a staple ingredient in our diet.

Actually, without Long Clawson Dairy’s Blue Stilton, I wouldn’t be here, but that’s a story for another day.

Finding new ways to incorporate one of our local ingredients into family meals is important, especially now that I am trying to be conscious about the food we are eating. Sourcing locally produced ingredients are important to my overall real food journey and I don’t think you can get more local than a dairy that uses milk from the farms within a five-mile radius of our house.

Stilton or any blue cheese is a bit like Marmite. You either love it or hate it, for me, I love both blue cheeses and Marmite. My eldest also loves the taste but I think it is a bit too strong for the younger too, so being able to add it into meal means we can all enjoy it.

Burgers are so easy to make, especially these blue cheese burgers. I made these ones on the stove top but they can be grilled or BBQ. They also taste a million times better than store brought ones, plus you know exactly what is going into them.

Using a good quality minced beef really adds to the texture and consistency of the burger. Farm shop brought mince usually has a lower fat content with means you actually get more meat to eat and less waste.

I served ours with sweet potato and white potato wedges and a side salad and on mine, I added sauteed onions and mushrooms.

Real food, real easy - blue cheese burgers

  1. In a large bowl, break up the mince and crumble in the blue cheese. Combine together eventually adding some salt and pepper.
  2. Shape out 4 burgers and place on a plate.
  3. Heat some rapeseed oil in a frying pan or heat the grill if cooking on that.
  4. Add the blue cheese burgers, turning every 2 to 3 minutes on the stove or every 5 minutes under the grill.
